* Water conservation officials want $98,000 to buy 1,250 drums

Santa Fe city water conservation officials are hoping the City Council will approve spending more than $98,000 to buy 1,250, 75-gallon barrels from a Vermont-based company.

"We want to get them ASAP," said Dan Ransom, a city water conservation specialist.

Ransom said if the council approves, the barrels could be shipped out to the City Different within days. The city plans to sell them for $40 a piece to residents who want them.

There are ground rules to purchasing a barrel: only one per person and anyone who bought a barrel last year is ineligible this year. …
