Officials to Decide Course for Water Projects.(Journal North)

Santa Fe County residents have provided the money for regional water projects, and now city and county officials must agree which projects to spend the millions of dollars on.

In April 2002, voters approved a quarter-cent increase to the county's gross receipt tax to fund regional water projects, road improvements and open-space acquisitions.

Of the $7.7 million the new tax generates per year, 50 percent is to go toward regional water projects recommended by the Santa Fe City/County Regional Planning Authority.

With water being a contentious issue for both governing entities, agreeing on which water projects to fund in the next five years could prove to be a challenge. …
