Her Leap Best In 40-44 Group

The New Mexico Games has rarely had a world record set at any of its numerous events. Check that. Never has the Games seen a world record of any sort.

Until Saturday, that is.

Trish Porter, at the New Mexico Games Track & Field competition, cleared 1.73 meters, or a little over 5 feet, 8 inches, in the high jump. For the 40-year-old former Olympian, that's a world record in the 40-to-44 age group, beating the previous mark of 1.72 meters.

"I hadn't really thought about it," said Porter, who hoped coming in she could clear 5-6 and be technically sound. "I know now why nobody does it when they're 40. …
