Farmers, Scientists Discuss State Plan

Gov. Bill Richardson has said he wants to have a statewide water plan in place by the end of the year, and a forum held Saturday got people talking about just what that plan should entail.

Participants were asked to imagine what New Mexico's water situation might look like in the future, taking into consideration population growth and many other issues. Then, participants broke into groups according to their representative interests to discuss the positives and negatives of what they foresaw.

Farmers, environmentalists, hydrologists, geologists, lawyers, public officials and ordinary citizens gathered at the University of New Mexico for the regional water forum. …
