Man Couldn't Enter Wife's Hospital Room

John Davis couldn't believe it when workers at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital wouldn't let him into his wife's exam room on a Sunday in early May.

Davis had left the room -- where his wife, Serenia, was awaiting tests for severe stomach pain -- to speak with his father. A hospital staff member had earlier told his father that Serenia was not listed as a patient.

The Davis family's experience shows some of the confusion that health care institutions and patients are encountering as Albuquerque hospitals work under new patient-privacy laws that took effect in April. …
