Funding Plans Will Help Boost UNM Fiscal Budget.(Final)

Higher state appropriations and grant funding will help boost the University of New Mexico budget by 10.3 percent to $1.4 billion for fiscal year 2003-04, under a plan approved Wednesday by regents.

"The Legislature recognizes the importance of funding the flagship university of New Mexico," Regent Jack Fortner said after the meeting.

Legislators this year appropriated $249 million in state funding for UNM, up 5.8 percent from this year's figure.

The budget will take effect July 1 if the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education approves it later this month.

The budget also reflects UNM's strength in competing for federal grants and contracts, Fortner said. …
