Land Swap Inquiry Continues.(West Side Journal)

Rio Rancho detectives are still investigating a 4-year-old land swap between the city and a privately held company.

State Police confirmed they were contacted by the city's Department of Public Safety two weeks ago, but have not worked on the case, said Lt. Pete Kassetas, with the State Police criminal division.

"This is not a State Police case," he said. "We were asked to assist on a limited basis, but we have not done anything."

DPS spokesman John Francis said Wednesday the investigation is still active and still is the responsibility of DPS detectives.

Rio Rancho Mayor Jim Owen said he asked DPS Chief Michael Baker to involve the New Mexico State Police in the investigation to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest. …
