Victim's Survivors Want Trial, Not Deal.(Journal North)

TAOS -- The family of LeAnne Martinez, a 22-year-old single mother slain last year in her Chamisa Road home, is voicing its opposition to a possible plea bargain for the man accused of killing Martinez.

LeAnne's mother, Emilie Abeyta, and her older sister, Valerie Martinez, 29, said they learned Monday that Taos District Attorney Donald Gallegos was in the process of negotiating a plea bargain with their daughter's alleged killer, Richard Fresquez, 24, of Ranchos de Taos, and said they are "incensed" that the case won't go to trial.

"What kind of a message are we sending to criminals by not prosecuting them to the fullest extent," said an angry Valerie Martinez. …
