Albuquerque's CVI Laser, a 31-year-old manufacturer of laser optics and an ever-present member of the annual New Mexico Flying 40 list, has been sold to Minneapolis-based Norwest Equity Partners.

Terms were not disclosed, and the new owner has made no decision yet about whether to keep the company and its 200 local employees here.

As part of the deal, CVI has spun out a separate company, Spectral Products, which is owned by CVI founder Yu Hahn.

Norwest Equity stepped in to buy CVI after Hahn concluded he wanted to pursue other business interests, said John Hale, a partner with Norwest. …
