State GOP Splits With Domenici

SANTA FE -- The state Republican Party has broken ranks with GOP Sen. Pete Domenici to oppose a proposed New Mexico constitutional amendment that would increase the annual payout from a state permanent fund to pay for education reforms.

Ramsay Gorham, chairwoman of the state Republican Party and state senator from Albuquerque, said the GOP came out against the proposal during an executive committee meeting on Saturday.

"My executive committee did vote to fight the constitutional amendment," Gorham said Tuesday. "The vote was overwhelming; it was 21-3."
