Ex-Priest Arrested in 2nd Sex Case.(Final)

A former Roman Catholic priest once accused of molesting children in California was arrested in Rio Rancho on similar sex charges out of Arizona.

New Mexico State Police investigators arrested Lawrence Lovell at his home Friday on a "no-bond" felony warrant. District Judge Louis McDonald on Monday reduced the bond amount to $50,000.

Lovell posted the bond and was released Monday.

An arrest warrant was issued May 28 for Lovell, 55, out of Yavapai County, Ariz., said Lt. Robert Shilling, a State Police spokesman. The warrant stemmed from incidents that allegedly occurred there in 1978.

Lovell, an employee in the University of New Mexico's psychiatric center since 1992, had been indicted on multiple counts of sexual contact with a minor under the age of 15 and child molestation. …
