Eight Recipients Pick Up Awards

Since she was little, Katherine Rudell of Los Alamos had hoped to one day receive the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award.

Monday, hot off of finishing her freshman year at Colorado State University, she received the organization's highest award. She earned it for her project to organize and preserve the photos and newspaper clippings collected over 45 years by the Sangre de Cristo Council.

"It means so much because it's just such a high honor," Rudell, 19, said after Monday's program at the Rotunda.

The New Mexico Girl Scouts on Monday presented eight young women from four councils with the Gold Award, which honors senior members who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to their communities and a dedication to achievement. …
