11 People Per Opening Show Up at APS Fair

Sarah Gleason, fresh out of teaching school, passed out 15 resumes on cloud-covered paper Friday, but found interviews scarce for Albuquerque school jobs.

"I'll get a job," said the 23-year-old, whose mortgage application for her new house is pending confirmation of her first job. But, she added, "I'm so scared."

Historically, about three people have interviewed for every one job at Albuquerque Public Schools. This year, there were 11 people for every opening at the annual APS Job Fair.

"The majority of us aren't getting jobs," Gleason said.

"No openings, sorry," read a sign at the empty Tomasita Elementary interview table. …
