No Shortage of Blame In Dismissal of DWI.(Final)(Editorial)

EDITORIALS

"It is unfair to blame anyone, ..." defense attorney Ronald Norman said of the dismissal of charges against his client, Jose Munoz. It was the second consecutive DWI charge against Munoz dropped because it wasn't tried within the six-month deadline.

Actually, it's fair to blame everyone involved in this travesty. Start with Munoz, who police say had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit when the Jeep he was driving -- with a 4-year-old passenger on board -- allegedly slammed into the back of Paul Chalker's motorcycle at an intersection.

Blame the prosecutor, assistant district attorney Alesia Duran, for not realizing it was taking too long to get Munoz arraigned, and for waiting until three days before Munoz's scheduled Feb. …
