Explore interactive world of marine mammals

For decades the inviolate rule for visiting museum exhibits was "Look, but don't touch."

That rule has been bending in recent years with the popularity of "interactives," places within exhibits that permit visitors to have hands-on experiences.

"Masters of the Ocean Realms" -- opening June 7 at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History -- is a good example of an exhibit with lots of hands-on stations.

"The exhibit is an immersive, interactive exploration of marine mammals, how they breathe, how they eat, how they use sonar, their social lives, and how humans have incorporated whales and dolphins into cultures around the world," said David Mandel, the museum's chief of exhibits. …
