Village May Try To Get More Rights School's out for summer in Corrales and the municipal swimming pool is filled with Corralenos looking to beat the heat.

However, the village is overdrawn at the water bank and one of the biggest water bandits is the village recreation center.

Documents from the State Engineer Office say the well at the recreation center has overspent its water budget by about 43 acre feet since 1998. However, research by the Corrales Water Management Task Force shows the well may be overdrawn by roughly 57 acre feet since 2000.

An acre-foot is about 326,000 gallons or enough water to cover an acre of land one foot deep.

Glenn Young, chairman of the Corrales Water Management Task Force, says the village is also overdrawn at other municipal wells such as the one that serves Village Hall and other municipal buildings. …
