New Strategy 'Worked Well'

The Moriarty High boys basketball team upset Manzano 41-37 Friday night in opening round action of the New Mexico Games in Albuquerque.

The Pintos finished the tournament with a 2-2 record. Moriarty played three games on Saturday, losing to Santa Fe Capital 48-38, defeating Santa Fe 58-56 and losing to two-time defending Class 2A champion Hope Christian 48-44.

"We played very well," said Moriarty coach Randy Lykins. "We used a new defensive strategy that we've been implementing, and it worked well."

The Moriarty girls, playing without last year's leading scorer Jennelle Spradley, also finished the New Mexico Games with a 2-2 record. …
