County Commission Votes to Raise Property Taxes.(Mountain View)

Bernalillo County commissioners by a narrow 3-2 margin approved a three-year property tax increase Tuesday as part of a $122.9 million operating budget.

Commissioner Michael Brasher, who represents the East Mountains, opposed the increase.

He was joined by Commissioner Tim Cummins in voting no, while Commissioners Tom Rutherford, Alan Armijo and Steve Gallegos favored the proposal.

Most of the increase would pay for overspending in the jail system. There also would be money for a 3.4 percent raise for county employees.

Under the plan, the county portion of the property tax bill on a home with a $100,000 assessed value would increase $30, a 13 percent jump from $223 to $253, according to county estimates. …
