Mayor Martin Chavez announced his policy against settling lawsuits against police officers by declaring that sunshine is the best disinfectant.

A federal court jury in Albuquerque shed some light on APD conduct last week when it awarded research librarian Jackie Shane $41,000 in damages in a case against APD officer Bryan Killinger.

According to testimony, Shane yelled at Killinger for not signaling a turn after her bike nearly collided with his police cruiser. The police officer then confronted Shane, handcuffed her, put her in the back seat of his cruiser and threatened to charge her with a crime. He released her 45 minutes later, testimony indicates, with no charges being brought. …
