LAS VEGAS, N.M. -- With the winds of change sweeping once again through the New Mexico Highlands University athletic department, the focus of the school's conference is on the future.

Contacted at the NCAA Division II World Series last week, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference commissioner Joel R. Smith said the time is now for NMHU to get ready for the months and years to come.

"New Mexico Highlands is still a viable member of our conference," he said. "I have not had a chance to speak with the incoming administration as of yet, but I feel it's of most importance for the school to find some kind of continuity in its leadership. There has been a great deal of changeover that needs to come to an end."

Starting June 2, NMHU will be under the control of its fourth athletic director in less than four years. …
