'Wrapped' shows off Cubans' love of books.(Final)

"Wrapped Words: Handmade Books from Cuba's Ediciones Vigia" opens to the public at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at the National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum.

Jeanne Drewes, the exhibition curator from Michigan State University, will lead a public tour at 2 p.m. that day, followed by a slide lecture at 3:30 p.m.

The artists' cooperative Ediciones Vigia in Matanzas, Cuba, has produced limited edition books since 1985. The workshop cooperative employs 14 people who write, design, illustrate and fabricate the handmade books.

"Wrapped Words" includes 38 books and nine banners drawn from the collection of the Michigan State libraries. …
