Henson, 71, Has No Plans To Retire.(Final)

LAS CRUCES -- At 71, Lou Henson is standing by a decision he made several years ago: He will continue to coach as long as he wants.

The most frequently asked question Henson hears is how much longer he plans to stay at the helm of the men's basketball program at New Mexico State.

His stock answer is that as long as he has his health and enjoys it, he'll keep going.

''If it weren't fun, I wouldn't do it,'' Henson says. ''Now I'm the oldest coach in Division I basketball. I never thought I'd be the oldest.''

Henson's 762 wins are second among active coaches in NCAA Division I men's basketball. Bobby Knight tops the list with 807.

Henson is also eighth on the all-time Division I win list. He needs just 16 victories to pass Henry Iba and Jerry Tarkanian for sixth place. And if the Aggies win 24 games next season, he'll tie Lefty Driesell for fifth. …
