Woman Found Tied at Cemetery

One of possibly two men suspected in the abduction and rape of a woman found at the Los Padillas Cemetery has been arrested.

Benjamin J. Sandoval, 31, was arrested at midnight Friday at a home in the 2000 block of Nancy SW, said Michelle Arviso Devlin, spokeswoman for the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.

District Court documents show Sandoval has an extensive criminal background, including a charge of first-degree murder in 1998. Sandoval was released from prison earlier this year after serving five years for aggravated battery.

In this case, he has been charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual penetration, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and assault with intent to commit a violent felony, according to the arrest warrant. …
