More than five years have passed since the University of New Mexico disclosed that many children treated for cancer at UNM Hospital didn't receive recommended therapies.

Today, the malpractice case, with tens of millions of dollars paid so far to patients and families, remains far from resolved.

State District Judge Robert Thompson in March appointed a special master in a lawsuit brought by parents of two dead children.

Thompson ordered UNM to give the special master a list of all kids treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia or acute myelogenous leukemia between Jan. 1, 1982, and Dec. 31, 1996. …
