City May 'Boot' Bad Parkers.(Journal North)(Editorial)

Santa Fe city officials are considering a plan to immobilize the cars of parking scofflaws. The plan to "boot" offenders' vehicles is the latest in a series of steps the city has taken to toughening its parking policies. The first such was back in 2001, when Municipal Judge Fran Gallegos and the city's parking division decided to actually enforce existing laws and make the recipients of parking tickets pay their fines. At that time, the outstanding balance owed by scofflaws was the non-trivial sum of $2.5 million.

Despite Judge Fran and despite the parking division, which communicates monthly with those who haven't paid up or who have amassed multiple violations, habitual parking offenders are apparently still a problem. …
