Helwick Rolls To Decathlon Victory

Utah's Samantha Hamblin took advantage of her least favorite event to capture the 28th annual Great Southwest Classic heptathlon at the University of New Mexico Track Stadium on Friday.

Hamblin, a Kanab, Utah, junior who normally specializes in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, ran a 2:22.55 in the 800 in the last event to overtake Phoenix senior Ashley Hintz and capture the two-day multi-event portion of the annual meet for the top high school athletes in the region.

Hamblin scored 4,334 points, while Hintz picked up 4,253 points. Arizona's Nicole Nevitt finished third with 4,114. …
