The high-water mark for the University of New Mexico baseball team came April 2 when it beat No. 7 Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.

That win, the Lobos' sixth straight, raised their record to a season-best 23-10 and fueled speculation that this 14th season under coach Rich Alday would be the best in school history.

Instead, UNM's season came to an inglorious end Thursday after two less-than-distinguished efforts in the Mountain West Conference tournament at Isotopes Park. The defeats dropped the Lobos' record to 34-26, and they wound up losing seven of their last eight games.
