Volunteered Life In Aide to Others

Alice Wipf, a longtime teacher at Whittier Elementary School, was so well liked that former students kept in touch with her as adults.

Wipf, who volunteered for a number of organizations, died Monday of cancer at Albuquerque Medical Center. She was in her 80s.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 this morning at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7999 Wyoming NE.

Wipf (pronounced whiff) taught for 30 years at Albuquerque Public Schools, but mostly third grade at Whittier, said a niece, Maureen Flanagan Vik of Albuquerque.

"Alice always stood out to her students as a teacher who cared about them," Vik said. …
