County Action Upsets South Valley Family For over 250 years, the Sanchez family farmhouse stood in a beautiful, wooded patch of the South Valley, family member Alex Gutierrez says.

The single-story, five-bedroom home now lies in piles of rubble. It was bulldozed earlier this year by workers building a detention pond for storm water runoff from Isleta Boulevard.

Gutierrez, a 49-year-old South Valley resident and city employee, says he and his family were surprised when the farmhouse was leveled. They had expected Bernalillo County and University of New Mexico officials to restore the property after it was sold to the county in 1997. …
