El Norteno offers food of Old Mexico in relaxed setting

Serving the kinds of Old Mexican dishes not available commonly in Albuquerque, El Norteno is exotic enough to pique the interest of epicureans, and ordinary enough for those whose comfort quotient hovers at enchiladas. At El Norteno, one can dine on goat, fish tacos or chicken in mouthwatering chipotle sauce, throw back a cold beer on the outdoor patio, and still have some change from one of those newfangled $20 bills.

The setting is decidedly relaxed, with a hodgepodge of tables, institutional chairs (you know the kind with metal legs and black vinyl upholstery), and Naugahyde booths whose springiness leaves you bouncing happily for several minutes. …
