Pintos Pitcher's Arm Was on Fire

FARMINGTON -- The Pintos' Bobby Moore said he had butterflies all day in anticipation of Friday night's Class 4A state baseball semifinal playoff start against Onate at Ricketts Park.

As it turned out, the Knights probably would have had better luck swatting butterflies with a butter knife than they had connecting with Moore's pitches.

The junior lefthander was simply untouchable, striking out 16 Onate batters -- a state record for a seven-inning game -- as the Pintos blanked the Knights 3-0.

"Mostly I was challenging them with high fastballs," said Moore, who broke the record of 15 strikeouts set by Derrick Whitaker of Bloomfield in 1979. …
