Amended Animal Ordinance Passes

There is no longer a limit to the number of livestock that individuals can own in the village of Los Ranchos, but there are new limits on leash lengths for dogs.

Los Ranchos trustees passed last week an amended animal welfare ordinance. It will take effect June 13.

Village attorney David Mathews said the previous zoning code, which includes the animal ordinance, allowed for one horse per 10,000 square feet, or four horses per acre.

That limit has been lifted.

Mathews said the focus of the ordinance will now be on the effects of the livestock rather than on their number. …
