FARMINGTON -- Shane Lutrick took a short walk on the wild side in a Class 2A state quarterfinal baseball game at Ricketts Park.

Unfortunately for Lutrick and his Estancia High teammates, his brief wildness went a long way toward allowing Jemez Valley to escape with a 4-2 victory May 15.

Lutrick, a senior pitcher, walked two batters and uncorked two wild pitches in the opening inning -- all of which eventually led to three runs -- to spoil an otherwise masterful performance.

"If I could take that first inning back, we win that game," said Lutrick, who fired a three-hitter and struck out seven. "The guys played their butts off. They deserved to win. …
