* CYFD raises child care program earning limit so 3,000 more benefit

The state Children, Youth, and Families Department has changed the eligibility requirements for its child care assistance program, increasing by about 3,000 the number of children whose families qualify.

Before, families wishing to receive assistance couldn't earn more than the federal poverty level, $1,252 a month for a family of three. Now, they can earn up to 30 percent -- or $1,627 a month -- more than that and still qualify.

During his campaign, Gov. Bill Richardson said that expanding the program would be a priority in his effort to address New Mexico's persistently high rates of child poverty. …
