Feds see no supply for farmers by early August, need to find minnow more water

Middle Rio Grande farmers will run out of water by early August and additional water must be found to keep the endangered silvery minnow alive through the year, federal water managers said Tuesday.

There also could be extensive river drying south of the Isleta Diversion Dam after early August, they said.

If the predictions come true, it will be a worse season for farmers than last summer.

The minnows also could be worse off because new Rio Grande flow requirements in place this summer require less water to be left in the river than was required last year. …
