Plan Streamlines Pretrial Interviews

Prosecutors, defense attorneys and police signed an agreement Tuesday aimed at cutting officer overtime expenses and making pretrial interviews more efficient.

Under the memorandum of agreement, Albuquerque police will provide interview rooms at their Downtown headquarters where attorneys can question officers involved in their cases.

That means defense attorneys will no longer have to travel to substations across the city.

Also, the interviews will be scheduled when police are already Downtown for court hearings. That should reduce overtime expenses, Police Chief Gil Gallegos said. …
