Move in Response To National Alert

SANTA FE -- Twenty National Guard members will assist federal transportation officials at the Albuquerque International Sunport in response to the increased national terrorism alert, Gov. Bill Richardson announced.

The nationwide alert level Tuesday was raised to orange, the second highest level. The change is based on national and international intelligence information.

In addition, Richardson ordered the state's Emergency Operations Center to be on 24-hour watch "so we will be more prepared for any potential terrorist attack on our state," he said.

Albuquerque also will have its emergency center open 24 hours, Mayor Martin Chavez said. …
