Sunflowers were Carolyn Rustvold's favorite. Students at Montezuma Elementary School remembered that Tuesday.

Children planted sunflower seeds in a dusty patch of earth on the school campus to honor the 28-year-old occupational therapist.

Rustvold was last seen alive Jan. 17. Police believe she was attacked in her classroom after classes broke for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Her body was found in a ditch near Belen two months later. School janitor Martin Saiz, 20, has been charged in her slaying and remains in the Bernalillo County Detention Center in lieu of $800,000 bail. …
