* Santa Fe High group pushing to ban use of animal cadavers in all but upper-level science courses

Angelica Loya does not have pleasant memories of her eighth-grade science class.

Even though she opposed the idea of dissecting dead frogs, pigs and grasshoppers, Loya said she reluctantly went ahead with the course work because she feared her grade would suffer.

The experience bred resentment.

"For a while, I started to hate science," she said.

Now a sophomore at Santa Fe High School, Loya is a member of the Environmental Animal Rights Society, a student group pushing to ban dissections in all but upper-level science courses. …
