City Checking Development Fee Records.(West Side Journal)

Rio Rancho developers, since 1995, have either paid fees to the city for roads and sewer lines within their development or paid the costs themselves and received credit.

Now, the city wants to know how much it has received in impact fees from developers and how many credits it has given out.

The city will hire an accountant to perform a "special procedures inquiry" on the development department's accounting of impact fees, said Ed Chismar, acting city administrator.

The impact fees are intended to help the city avoid the cost of adding infrastructure -- sewer and water lines, streets and other such improvements -- to new developments. …
