Zia Cats Topple Rio Vista Elite

SANTA ANA PUEBLO -- From Las Cruces to Albuquerque, then to Utah and now to Hawaii, the Jornada Sharks girls soccer team has been on quite a journey the last three years.

"We've grown as a team," said Sharks right wing Taylor Lytle, an eighth-grader at Las Cruces' Zia Middle School.

At the Lovelace N.M. Soccer Tournament Complex on Sunday, Lytle scored two goals to pace Jornada to a dominating 6-1 victory over Albuquerque United Football Club '89 in the U14 finals of the 2003 Snickers New Mexico Open State Cup. The win earned the Sharks their second consecutive state championship, and both titles came against United. …
