Simms gave land to Albuquerque Academy.(Business Outlook)

The tree-shaded winding avenues that are home to the Sun Healthcare campus, the Marshall Building, Albuquerque Publishing Co. and other landmark properties have become one of the most sought-after sites for businesses eager for a polished image, developers and brokers say.

But nearly 40 years ago, the area now known as Journal Center was just so much undeveloped dirt along Jefferson NE, then owned by Albert G. Simms.

A millionaire, lawyer, banker, landowner and congressman, Simms said he preferred to be known as a rancher.

Shortly before his death in 1964, he donated 320 acres to Albuquerque Academy, one of his many gifts to the school. …
