Desert Chorale brings music to churches.(Special Section)

Vocal music from the Middle Ages to today will saturate area cathedrals and chapels during the Santa Fe Desert Chorale's summer season.

Conductor and director Dennis Shrock has assembled a wide range of challenging, interesting and spirited liturgical and secular music for the 24 singers who come from 12 states to spend the summer performing together.

The season offers five programs of a cappella and accompanied music.

A free presentation of a Gregorian Mass is one of the first concerts. It takes place at 10 a.m. July 6 in St. Francis Cathedral.

"This is the third year that we're offering a gift to the community by presenting a complete, traditional Gregorian Mass," says Shrock. "It has been shockingly successful in the past. We had to turn away people last year. …
