Mishap in Relay Benefits Others ALAMOGORDO -- A few surprises occurred on the first day of the girls track-and-field state championships in classes 4A and 5A, including one that could benefit title hopeful Cibola and defending champion Eldorado.

Cibola, among others, stands to profit from a fall near the finish line Friday by the anchor of Clovis' 800 relay. The Wildcats, who failed to qualify, came into the 5A meet with the fastest 800 time, but the fall pushed Clovis out of the event.

The 'Cats' Monique Walker also was expected to do well in the long jump but finished far behind the field, making the road uphill for Clovis. …
