New Curb Cut Improves Park Access.(West Side Journal)

Starting today, people who use wheelchairs will have a much easier time playing at a new Rio Rancho park.

A curb cut laid at a park in the Enchanted Hills neighborhood Thursday topped off a week of changes intended to make access easier for people with disabilities.

The curb cut, a depression in the curb that allows wheelchair access to the sidewalk, should be available for use today, said Carrie Moritomo, spokeswoman for the Parks and Recreation Department.

The park's play equipment is designed so all children can play together.

Lack of access to the park came to the department's attention after a group of disabled young adults from a Rio Rancho day care center tried to use the park last week. …
