Deputy May Face Charges

Santa Fe County Sheriff's Deputy Shawn Beck could face criminal charges in the wake of an investigative grand jury's finding that his fatal Feb. 4 shooting of David Sisneros was not justified.

The finding is the first in recent history in which a grand jury determined a fatal shooting by a Santa Fe area law enforcement officer was unjustified.

The case now goes to a grand jury to decide whether Beck faces criminal charges, said Santa Fe District Attorney Henry Valdez.

Beck shot and killed Sisneros Feb. 4 at a home off Old Galisteo Road after Sisneros, armed with a knife, charged Beck, according to State Police. …
