Monument's Plants Do More Than Look Pretty.(West Side Journal)

* Herbalist will point out healing properties and answer questions

Learn the medicinal properties of native plants Saturday at the Petroglyph National Monument.

Clinical and field herbalist Beverly McFarland of Cedar Crest will show plants with healing properties and answer questions at the monument's visitor's center from noon to 4 p.m.

Earlier in the day, she will lead a walk along the trails of Boca Negro Canyon at the monument. No spots are available for the walk.

McFarland said she intends to give other clinics on the medicinal properties of plants at a later date. She can be reached at 281-3515 for more information.

There is plant life near the visitor center that cannot be seen during the walk such as desert willow and sumac, McFarland said. …
