City Council Aims to Cut Number of False Alarms.(West Side Journal)

Alarm systems on homes and businesses are intended to provide security, but numerous false alarms in Rio Rancho are compromising public safety, police said.

"The effect is false alarms tie up officers from patrolling neighborhoods and responding to other calls," said officer John Francis, Department of Public Safety spokesman.

A false alarm ordinance before the city council is intended to cut down on the number of alarm calls in the city by imposing fines on alarm owners after three false alarms.

City councilors approved the second reading of the ordinance Wednesday night. The ordinance must be approved a third time before it becomes law. …
