Cajun-blues mix gains popularity

Mallet, La., is an old Creole settlement in St. Landry Parish, a few miles west of Lawtell and a few more miles west of Opelousas.

Surrounded by rice fields, Mallet has a parish church and a handful of stores and nightclubs.

It is where singer/accordion player Terrance Simien was born and raised, providing Simien with the fertile soil for the popular zydeco music he's been playing for years.
