Horsemen Are Unlikely Favorites.(Journal North)

With the two-time state champion New Mexico Military sitting at home, the St. Michael's baseball team may find itself in an unfamiliar role favorite entering today's semifinal round against Cobre in the Class 3A state baseball tournament in Farmington.

Winners of 19 of their last 21 games, the Horsemen (19-8) have gone undefeated against every team not named West Las Vegas since the conclusion of the St. Michael's Tournament in late March. The team's only setbacks came in district play against the Dons, a program that finished in the middle of the pack in 2-3A.

"Once all the basketball players came out, we've been on top of it," said starting shortstop and leadoff hitter Thomas Romero, one of a handful of players who joined the team after the season had already begun. …
